Food and drink can be found in the local village public houses, the nearest, The Drover's Rest at Monkhill (0.5 miles). There are many pubs, tearooms and a rich and varied number of restaurants to choose from within easy reach in the surrounding towns and villages.
Cinemas
The nearest cinemas are in Carlisle.
The Vue is a multiplex cinema showing films recently released.
Foreign and avant-garde films are regularly shown at The Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery.
Just across the border, the Annan Lonsdale cinema is a friendly and welcoming picture house, which we prefer for its cosy atmosphere.
Theatres
The Sands Centre is Carlisle's main venue for music, theatre and gigs, offering a variety of shows and well known acts.
The intimate and friendly Theatre by the Lake has a very diverse programme of shows and exhibitions. Situated in Keswick (30 miles) it overlooks Derwent Water.
The Buccleuch Centre in Langholm (21 miles) is South Scotland's music and arts venue.
There are several public swimming pools in Carlisle but our favourite is a small (35 feet by 14 feet ) private pool together with Spa hot tub that we hire by the hour at Longburgh (3 miles).
